Eric Hattan (born October 10, 1955 in Wettingen ) is a Swiss concept, video, performance and installation artist.

Eric Hattan starts with concrete things and spaces. He questions places, architectures and everyday situations by breaking their order and subverting the supposed statics of the world with playful irony. The rearrangement and rearrangement of clothes, furniture, plinths or monitors play a decisive role in his work; it has almost become independent and always exposes what is available to unbiased observation. With the video camera, Hattan looks at processes and events in urban space. On forays through cities and their peripheral areas, he discovers a potential of three-dimensional basic forms that have supplemented, commented on or permeated his own installation work since the 1990s. It is no coincidence that the phenomenological investigation of everyday processes and incidental movements brings him near construction sites again and again. Zones that are not yet or no longer used, properties shortly before their demolition or during a construction stop, fallow land and no-man's places unintentionally expose sculptural qualities that challenge the artist to different perspectives and insights. Hattan's mostly temporary projects in public space also bear witness to a desire to suddenly turn the view of the familiar and to turn outside views inside out.

Hattan's artistic career ran parallel to his early commitment to a young scene of artists with whom he in the 1980s and 1990s in self-organized project space branch responsible for numerous shows and performances.

Eric Hattan lives and works in Basel and Paris .
