The Hiroshima monorail ( Japanese 広 島 短 距離 交通 瀬 野 線 , Hiroshima tankyori kōtsū Seno-sen , German Hiroshima-Nahverkehr-Seno-Linie ) has been part of the public transport system of the Japanese city of Hiroshima in the west of the main island of Honshu since August 28, 1998 . The nickname of the railway in the Seno district of the Aki-ku district was Sky Rail Midorizaka Line ( ス カ イ レ ー ル み ど り 坂 線 , Sukai Rēru Midorizaka-sen , German Sky Railroad Green Hill Line ) or Sky Rail ( ス カ イ レ ー ル , Sukai Rēru ). The operator is Sky Rail Service ( ス カ イ レ ー ル サ ー ビ ス 株式会社 , Sukai Rēru Sābisu Kabushiki-gaisha ).
Route
The monorail, electrified with 440 volts DC voltage , begins at Midoriguchi station ( み ど り 口 ), which is located directly next to Seno station on the San'yō main line from JR West . It leads to a newly developed residential area on the nearby hills . The route is 1.3 kilometers long and overcomes a difference in altitude of 160 meters, with an incline of up to 253 ‰. There is a stopover.
The monorail is a system similar to a cable car. The vehicles are cabins that can carry up to 25 passengers . They are guided on a mounting rail and latch into a transport system on departure. It is usually driven every ten minutes , but runs every 75 seconds are also possible if required.
