Icebreaker fees

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Icebreaker fees are charged by various port states for the use or provision of an icebreaker service.

Different port states charge a fee for the use of the icebreaker services they offer. The costs of the icebreaker depend on the sea area traveled or the port to be approached, the time required, the size and the ice class of the ship to be accompanied.

Unlike the percentage of ice surcharge that is levied on sea freight to compensate for the difficult transport conditions and the additional general risk of sailing on icy fairways or areas, icebreaker fees are charged for keeping the fairway clear and are borne by the ship using the service .
