Balaclava railway accident

In the railway accident of Balaclava , Jamaica , derailed on July 30, 1938, a passenger train . 32 people died.

Starting position

The train was en route from Kingston to Montego Bay . There was a speed limit of 40 km / h on a downhill section, which also had a narrow track curve .

the accident

The engine driver was unable to reduce the speed of the train sufficiently. The train took the curve at 60 km / h, the locomotive derailed, as did the following cars. Some of the wagons partially pushed into one another, injuring or killing numerous people.

consequences

32 people died, 77 were also injured. This was the first railroad accident in Jamaica that left people dead.
