Barneau Railway Accident

In the railway accident at Barneau , on a bridge southeast of Paris , on August 13, 1918, three trains were involved. 20 people died.

Starting position

The double-track route from Paris-Bastille to Marles-en-Brie runs between Solers and Barneau on a bridge over the Yerres River . The train protection on this route consisted of "driving at intervals". If a train had to stop unscheduled , it had to be secured at the rear with bang caps .

the accident

A first train stopped on the Yerres Bridge. Train attendants secured him to the rear according to regulations with blasting capsules. The following train nevertheless drove into the train. In this derailed the last two cars of the train, were smashed, and the radicals may also be projected into the track of the opposite direction inside. A train running in the opposite direction drove into the rubble, which also derailed and from which some wagons fell from the bridge.

20 people died and 30 were also injured.
