Eisenerzer Bahn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eisenerzer Bahn was built around 1810 in the Styrian mining town of Eisenerz . Their function was to move the rock from the Erzberg to the town. Because of this, it was only about 5.6 kilometers long. It was operated either by horse or human power. The track width was 820 mm.

The thesis that this line was the "First Railway in Austria and the European continent" is controversial. In principle, the railway system was used, but this railway was only an operating or mining railway and therefore only of completely subordinate importance in general traffic.

The railway system in and around the Erzberg was subsequently expanded, see Erzbergbahn . The railway from 1810 can be seen as the ancestor of this.
