Eisosome

An Eisosome (from ancient Greek εἴσ 'into' and σῶμα 'body') is a protein complex in the cell membrane of yeast on which endocytosis begins.

In yeasts, endocytosis begins in certain areas of the cell membrane, the iceosomes. There are about 50 to 100 Eisosomes on the cell surface of yeast, which contain the proteins Pil1 , Lsp1 , Sur7 , NCE102 , Eis1 , Seg1 and Ygr130C . These form a fold in the cell membrane measuring 50 × 300 nm. Sur7 and Nce102 are transmembrane proteins in the cell membrane, while Pil1 and Lsp1, as peripheral filamentous structural proteins on the inside of the cell membrane, stabilize the depression.
