Ice World Stuttgart
The Eiswelt Stuttgart (until 2011 Eissportzentrum Waldau ) is an ice rink on the Waldau in the Stuttgart-Degerloch district and is u. a. the home of the league-active ice hockey club Stuttgarter EC , with the Rebels, as well as the Stuttgarter Eishockey Traditionsverein eV with the former team, the Waldau Old Boyz. The United Angels as an art skating formation and many ambitious figure skaters are also based here.
history
The ice sports center on the Waldau was built in 1961 by the TEC Waldau as an open-air run and taken over by the city of Stuttgart on December 6, 1962. It was covered in 1977 and extensively renovated in 2011. Since the renovation in 2011, it has held 3000 spectators.
In 1967 a second hall was built as an open-air area and covered in 1983. This hall is used in particular as a training hall. Both halls are used daily.
use
Over 100,000 ice skaters come to the ice sports center every season. The two halls are currently home
- the Stuttgart Rebels from the Regionalliga Südwest
- of six junior ice hockey teams,
- from three figure skating clubs,
- an ice dance department and
- from two curling departments.
criticism
In 2013, the Federation of Nature Conservation criticized the fact that the ice world opens at outside temperatures of around 15 ° Celsius. The city of Stuttgart justifies the opening despite not winter temperatures with the renovation according to the most modern energy requirements.
