Game system

The baseball season in the Extraliga lasts from spring to autumn. It consists of two rounds:

  • Main round
  • Play-off round

In the main round, the teams play according to the “everyone against everyone” system in the first and second leg. The Extraliga games take place on Sundays. Two games of seven innings each are played on the same day.

The first four teams from the main round table take part in the play-off round. Here he competes first against the fourth and the second against the third. The game is played according to the “best of five” system, which means that in the semifinals and in the final three wins are required in order to advance or to win the title. Third place is also played out.

The relegation will be played out among the teams five to eight after the main round. The game is played according to the "best of three" system. The eighth player after this play-out round is automatically relegated to league I, the seventh player plays against the second in league I for the right to play in the extra league.

history

The league started in 1984. However, there are sources according to which there was a Polish baseball team in Vilnius even before the Second World War . Contacts between Polish and Czechoslovak baseball enthusiasts already existed in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1978 the Polish Baseball and Softball Association was founded. The first official baseball game is considered to be an encounter with the Dutch team Foresters Heiloo in 1983 when they were touring Poland. In the following year, the league began.
