El Born (tournament ground)
In the Catalan-speaking areas, El Born stands for the knight's tournament ground or for such a knight's tournament itself. In the Middle Ages, the knights' weapon games were held on these tournament grounds. Many place names in Catalonia and the surrounding areas (examples: Plaça del Born in the citadel of Menorca, Passeig del Born in Palma, Carrer del Born in Manresa and Igualada ) point to this past.
