The El Pital (often Cerro El Pital ) is with 2730 m the highest point in El Salvador . It is located on the border with Honduras and is the only place in El Salvador where snow can fall all year round .
The mountain is one of the largest tourist centers in El Savadore with many endangered plants and animals. The main attraction of the place is the camping area . The Quetzal and many other threatened animals live in the cloud forest of Los Esesmiles .
In the months from November to February the temperature is between 10 and −6 ° C and in the other months the temperature is between 20 and 5 ° C. The mountain is the coldest place in El Salvador. In January 1956, the lowest temperature since the weather records in El Salvador was recorded at -16.9 ° C.
