El Rodeo (Guatire)

El Rodeo is the second most important prison in the state of Miranda in Venezuela after the Yare prison .

There are three building complexes: Rodeo I, II and III. Rodeo I was built in 1980, Rodeo II in 1997–1998. The prison Rodeo I was designed for 750 inmates, Rodeo II for 500. Both centers are now overpopulated.

Rodeo III was planned for 650 occupants and completed in 2011. It has been hailed as a model prison by the Chavez government . El Rodeo is located near Guatire .

This institution is said to be one of the most dangerous in the country. Between June and July of 2011 there was violent unrest that resulted in the deaths of over 27 inmates.
