history
At the end of the eighteenth century, the captain Felix Bernabé Fernández bought land from the Spanish Empire and founded a hacienda called El Socorro. This land was formerly inhabited by Palenke Indians.
On August 2, 1816, during the War of Independence, the Quebrada Honda Battle took place nearby. The Independence Army, led by General MacGregors, defeated the forces of the Spanish government led by Juan Neponuceno Quero.
