El Tucumano

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The El Tucumano was the first day train connection between Buenos Aires ( Argentina ) and San Miguel de Tucumán .

prehistory

Since February 28, 1891, there has been a continuous train service between Buenos Aires and San Miguel de Tucumán ( Tucumán for short). The train stopped at all stations and the journey took 36 hours. From 1896 on, an express train also ran once a week, which reduced the travel time to 26 hours. But this was still only possible with a night drive.

history

After the success of the day train El Cordobés , an air-conditioned express train that ran between Buenos Aires and Cordoba from 1938 , the railroad decided to offer a train with the same equipment on the connection between Buenos Aires and Tucumán. It operated as a pure day train under the name El Tucumano from 1939. The scheduled travel time could be reduced to 16:15 hours. The trains left the departure stations in the early morning and reached their destination in the late evening.

Due to a changed timetable strategy, which only served long-distance routes in the country with night long-distance trains, El Tucumano was discontinued in 1964.
