Elephant school
In an elephant school , Asian elephants are prepared for their respective use and trained in a targeted manner . Areas of application are
- Silviculture (today only in Thailand and Myanmar )
- circus
- Tourist attraction (usually this is the school itself)
The only active elephant school for working elephants is in Lampang Province on the way to Chiang Mai , in northern Thailand . The young elephants start school when they are around three years old, and training takes around seven years.
The curriculum is divided into:
- Proper marching (in line and in pairs)
- Working on the tree trunk (moving, lifting, carrying, stacking)
- Assistance for the foremen ( mahouts )
Tourist elephant schools are still in Pattaya and north of Bangkok .
