Element Eighty was an American nu metal band from Tyler , Texas that formed in 2000 and split in 2006. After a re-establishment in 2007, the band was disbanded in 2010.

history

The founding members were David Galloway (vocals), Matt Woods (guitar), Ryan Carroll (drums) and Roon (bass). Just one year after their founding, they released their first album Mercuric on June 21, 2001 . The album was personally produced and distributed by the band. The name comes from the eightieth element of the periodic table mercury, which corresponds to the title of the album in English.

In April 2003 they signed a contract with Republic Records and released their first major label album Element Eighty on October 8, 2003 . It features new songs as well as songs from the Mercuric album . After that they toured with bands like Sevendust , Ill Niño , Flaw , 40 Below Summer and Mushroomhead .

After a few months, they realized that their record company, despite the success of the self-titled album (among other things, they were involved in the soundtrack for the racing game Need for Speed: Underground ), wasn't working for them. There were no videos, promotions or attempts to make the band better known. That is why they separated from the label at the end of 2004.

A little later, the original bassist Roon left the band and was replaced by Zack Bates. On November 5, 2005 they released their second album The Bear on the self-founded label Texas Cries Records . There they also took on lesser-known bands, which, however, in the wake of Element Eighty's fame, benefit from the fact that they appear as the opening act. The Bear was only sold in physical form in small numbers on the band's own site and at concerts; alternatively, the album can only be purchased as an MP3 download.

The band's last appearance was on New Year's Eve 2006 at the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth , Texas . Then the band split up without ever having given a reason.

In May 2007 the band announced their reunion and began work on a fourth studio album, which was never completed. The band made the following statement on their MySpace page in 2010: "We know you're all wondering what's going on. Ideally, we'd be out and about and play and be a productive band, but life takes its course and certain aspects it's out of control. We're still playing, but life on tour is not feasible right now. As for a new album, we've written some songs. In a perfect world, we would have finished the CD production and it would already in your hands. We have nothing but respect and love for you. "

After the activities on MySpace and the exchange with the fans were stopped, one can assume that the band and their record label have meanwhile been dissolved, even if there was never an official statement from Element Eighty. The drummer Ryan Carroll now plays for the Texan band Adakain.
