Eleonore Sophie Auguste Thon (born Eleonore Sophie Auguste Röder ; * 1753 in Eisenach , † April 22, 1807 ibid) was a German writer .

Life

Eleonore Sophie Auguste Thon was born in Eisenach in 1753 as the eldest daughter of the ducal chamber secretary August Friedrich Röder . She was baptized on October 29, 1753. August Friedrich Röder came from an impoverished noble family, but had given up the title of nobility. Eleonore received her upbringing from her godmother, who was the chief governess of the Princess of Saxony-Gotha and who taught her languages, music, drawing and writing. In 1782 Eleonore Röder married the privy councilor Johann Carl Salomo Thon , who in 1792 wrote the book Schloss Wartburg, a contribution to the lore of the past . The only son Eduard Thon (born 1783) comes from the marriage. He was a young soldier in Austrian service and was reported missing.

Eleonore Thon's first work, the three-volume novel Julie von Hirtenthal , appeared in 1783 and in the years that followed led to a whole series of poems, stories and even a play. Eleonore Thon published her works mostly anonymously or under the pseudonym "Jenny".

The last years of Eleonore Thon's life were marked by a serious illness. As early as 1796, foot paralysis began to make life difficult. In the following years the disease spread all over her body, so that she spent the last ten years before her death completely paralyzed in a special armchair.

Individual evidence

  1. Friedrich Rassmann ( literary concise dictionary of the deceased German poets and writers belonging to beautiful literature in eight periods, from 1137 to 1824 ) gives April 7, 1807 as the date of death.
  2. Susanne Kord ( Behind the Scenes , 1992) gives this date as the baptism date. Older source, such as B. Schindel, name November 27th (no year, Meusel: Das schehre Deutschland. Volume 21 (1827), p. 62 gives the year 1757) as the date of birth, which contradicts the date of the baptismal papers.
