Elven quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Elven Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 16). It was first performed on January 22, 1845 in Dommayers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

This quadrille was premiered on the occasion of a benefit concert on January 22nd, 1845 together with the waltz Die Junge Wiener (op. 7). The composer endeavored to appeal to the younger generation with his works. Both world premieres were therefore aimed primarily at young people. However, there was at best a polite applause for this quadrille. It has not been established whether the orchestral version ever appeared in print. There is a piano reduction which Arthur Kulling used to arrange the CD recording mentioned below. This work does not seem to have been performed between this recording and 1845.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 5 minutes and 7 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
