history

The Elijah Church was built in 1781 by the merchant Ivan Voronov and some other parishioners. It is unclear who the architect of the church building was. Officially, it is assumed that the Swiss Domenico Adamini was the architect. The Italian architect Bartolomeo Francesco Rastrelli could also have designed the church.

The furnishings include an old icon of Our Lady of Sorrows - adorned with twelve diamonds - and two rare editions of the Gospel from 1703 and 1751.

In 1924 the Elijah Church was listed as a historical monument . However, in 1930 the church bells were removed and preparations were made to destroy the church. Thanks to the efforts of some Michurinsk residents, it was saved from destruction.
