Elisabeth Seal Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Elisabeth Siegel Prize was founded in 2001 on the 100th birthday of the teacher and professor Elisabeth Siegel (1901–2002) from Osnabrück by the Working Group of Social Democratic Women. It is the only award from the city of Osnabrück that is awarded exclusively to women every two years. Jury members from associations such as the Osnabrück Women's Association and the Osnabrück Women's Alliance decide on the award. The prize administered by the Ernst Weber Fund is endowed with 1,000 euros. The prize is intended to honor the work of women in the sense of the lifetime achievement of Elisabeth Siegel, winner of the Justus Möser Medal , as a champion for basic democratic rights and the rights of women. It is intended to encourage women in their democratic commitment and make this visible to the public. The first Elisabeth Siegel Prize went to the Osnabrück artist Gertrud Margarita Krüger in August 2001 while Elisabeth Siegel was still alive.
