Ellen Kiel

Ellen Kiel (born February 9, 1959 in Minden ) is a German biologist and professor of aquatic ecology at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg .

Life

Ellen Kiel studied education, biology and sport at the University of Hanover . After graduating from high school as a teacher, she worked as an expert and consultant for biology and ecology in adult education and did her doctorate at the University of Hamburg . In 1991 she became a research assistant in Hamburg. Kiel completed a research stay at the Swiss Federal Institute for Water Supply, Wastewater Treatment and Water Protection at the Technical University of Zurich in 1994. She then returned to Hamburg. In 1997, Kiel initially took over the administration of a professorship at Vechta University of Applied Sciences, to which she was then appointed professor one semester later. Vechta she was a high school teacher with a focus on "species and habitat conservation, aquatic ecology" at the Institute for Nature Conservation and Environmental Education of the University of Vechta to. After the department was closed, she moved to the Institute for Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Oldenburg .

Ellen Kiel and her working group research the basics of aquatic ecology and conduct applied research in the field of landscape ecology, limnology and nature conservation issues. Current work focuses on the ecology of bogs and the fauna of aquatic and semi-aquatic habitats, the ecology of lowland waters and the ecology of aquatic and semi- aquatic organisms with a focus on Diptera . Since Ellen Kiel considers environmental education to be important, her working group is the only German university working group that is also the FÖJ deployment site for volunteers.
