Ellinah Wamukoya

Ellinah Ntombi Wamukoya ( 1951 - January 19, 2021 ) was an Eswatin Anglican bishop of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa .

Life

Wamukoya studied Anglican theology at the National University of Lesotho . She earned a master's degree in urban and regional planning . She received her BA in Geography and Afrikaans from the University of Botswana .

She was a chaplain at the University of Swaziland and St. Michael's High School in Manzini . At the same time she worked as the town clerk of the city of Manzini.

On November 17, 2012, she was consecrated by the Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba in the Diocese of Swaziland as the first Anglican bishop in Africa. For years she was involved in environmental protection in the Anglican Communion Environmental Network.

The BBC named her one of the 100 most influential women in the world in 2016.

Ellinah Wamukoya died on January 19, 2021 at the age of 69 of COVID-19 . She left behind her husband Okwaro Henry and four children.
