Ellinikós Telikós 2018 should take place on February 22, 2018 and be the Greek preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon ( Portugal ). On February 16, 2018, however, the broadcaster ERT decided on Gianna Terzi and her song O neiro mou as the Greek contribution for the ESC 2018, as it was the only title in the preliminary round after the other four were disqualified.

concept

format

After Greece carried out an internal selection in 2016 and 2017 , there should be another national preliminary decision in 2018. This should take place at the end of February 2018 and be decided 100% by televoting. A total of five participants should have been allowed to fight to present the ticket to Greece at the ESC 2018.

Choice of contribution

On October 4th, 2017, ERT sent out a letter to several leading Greek record labels asking the broadcaster to submit a song with Greek tones and Greek text. The deadline for this was October 27, 2017, so a total of 16 songs were submitted. The following committee decided which five songs make it into the preliminary round:

  • Anastasios Symeonidis (Chairman)
  • Petros Dourdoubakis (songwriter, radio producer)
  • Dimitris Ktistakis (conductor)
  • Alexis Kostas
  • Mihalis Messinis (songwriter)
  • Andreas Pylarinos (conductor)
  • Giannis Spyropoulos (orchestrator)
  • Tsaras Pantazis (radio producer)

Attendees

The final list of participants was published on November 7, 2017. On November 14, 2017, the producing broadcaster ERT disqualified the duo Fina and Tony Vlahos because their songs did not comply with the regulations, which would have resulted in the preliminary decision with three performers. On February 16, 2018, ERT announced that Areti Ketime and Chorostalites had also been disqualified after the record labels of both performers had not paid the sum of € 20,000 by February 16, 2018. These costs should allow Greece to participate. Gianna Terzi was the only remaining interpreter to win the preliminary round because her record label had paid the sum of € 20,000.
