Elstermühle Grochwitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Elstermühle Grochwitz is not located directly on the Black Elster , but was operated via a mill ditch that was fed with water from the river.

history

Until 1558 the mill was operated for fiscal purposes. Then Müller Georg Nauck was enfeoffed with the mill. During the Thirty Years War , the mill burned down in 1637. It was not until 1667 that the then head forester Günter began planning to build a new mill at the previous location. The then city council of Herzberg / Elster , however, initially had concerns about the new building, as it was feared that the planning chief forester would try to sell wood illegally, which could reduce the city's income from the electoral prince. The actual new building did not take place until 1693 under a Mr. von Koseritz , the new owner of the mill location.

construction

From the year 1772 the mill is described as follows: “... four grinding steps with two lugs on two water wheels which were designed as drawing wheels , one grinding process with oil mill and millet pounding on a drawing wheel, a cutting mill with one stick wheel .” In the 1920s the Mill described as a water and motor mill. In the 1930s a new water wheel was installed.

Other owners

In 1696 the mill belonged to Carl Gottlob von Römer, who also held the function of a city council in Herzberg. In 1731 Heinrich von Brühl , among other things Saxon chamber and general district director, is named as the owner. Georg Gottlieb von Schenk then signed a long-term lease with Müller Johann Christian Freudenberg. In 1826 the mill was bought by Mrs. Schrader for 3,600 thalers . In 1834 it was sold on to Friedrich Große for 6100 thalers. A certain Mr. Maltitz and Mrs. Jahn owned the mill in 1878. In 1926 the property with the mill was leased by Richard Zwiebel, who bought it in 1929. In 1958, Wolfgang Zwiebel became the last owner of the mill.

Others

The mill burned a total of three times. In addition to being destroyed during the Thirty Years War , it was destroyed by fire on February 2, 1806. On October 1, 1906, the fire brigade was called to a fire in the mill, but the mill itself was not affected, but there are two areas of fire in it. The house of the mill burned down that day. Five days later the mill was destroyed by fire. The property is then sold for 38,900 gold marks and rebuilt with the help of the insurance sum of 12,794 gold marks. In 1961 the water buildings of the mill were demolished due to the lack of water power. Wolfgang Zwiebel, the last owner, finally ceased operations in 1992.
