Emerge Desktop is an alternative desktop environment for Windows 2000 , Windows XP , Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003 . It is written in C ++ , developed primarily with the MinGW compiler and published under GPL3 .

Applets

Emerge Desktop consists of modules called "applets". Applets for Emerge Desktop are independent programs that can, however, exchange data with one another. Emerge Desktop includes these applets:

  • emergeCommand
  • emergeCore
  • emergeDesktop
  • emergeHotkeys
  • emergeLauncher
  • emergeTasks
  • emergeTray
  • emergeVWM

Each applet is intended to replace or expand functions of the standard Windows interface ( Windows Explorer ) and offers various settings and display options.

EmergeCore

The applet emergeCore enables all Emerge Desktop Applets to exchange data with one another. Without emergeCore, the applets run as normal application programs . So you can z. B. can also be used on other Windows interfaces.

EmergeTray

With emergeTray the user receives a notification field that shows all notification symbols that normally appear in the Windows Explorer taskbar at the bottom right next to the time.

EmergeVWM

Virtual workspaces have long been known in Unix-like systems . There are also some Virtual Window Managers (VWM) for Microsoft Windows; and Emerge Desktop brings its own VWM with this applet.
