The Fieseler F 1 "Tiger Swallow" is a sports and aerobatic aircraft of type RK 26 of Kassel Raab-Katzenstein , modified in Fieseler Segelflugzeugbau Kassel.

history

RK 26 “Tiger Terns” built by ASJA in Linköping as SK 10 for the Swedish Air Force at Varberg airfield

In 1928 Gerhard Fieseler commissioned the Raab-Katzenstein-Flugzeugwerke in Kassel to manufacture an aircraft for him with good aerobatic characteristics. His experience in aerobatics was implemented by the company's chief designer, Paul John Hall . Anatole Gobiet obtained the design and copyrights to the RK 25 and RK 26 through the bankruptcy of Raab-Katzenstein and sold the building rights to the Swedish company AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderas Aeroplanavdelning (ASJA), which had 25 RK 26 aircraft in the early 1930s built for the Swedish Air Force, which it operated as the SK 10 .

construction

The result was a cantilever double-decker with high structural strength and a powerful engine with a 220 hp Armstrong-Siddeley-Lynx engine. The aircraft was executed in composite construction; the fuselage consisted of a welded tubular steel construction with fabric covering, while the wings were made of fabric-covered wooden construction. In the aircraft, two open seats were arranged one behind the other, with the pilot flying the machine from the rear seat. At Raab-Katzenstein this aircraft was called RK 26 "Tiger Tern".

incident

In 1929 Fieseler flew in the prototype, which resulted in an accident. The aircraft was totaled, while Fieseler and an accompanying designer from the Raab-Katzenstein company got away with the horror.

use

Fieseler took over the second "Tiger Tern" under construction at Raab-Katzenstein in 1930 and modified it in his own company, the Kassel glider manufacture . A Walter Castor engine with an output of 240 hp was also installed. The result was the Fieseler F1 "Tiger Tern" with the registration D-1616. This machine proved itself in aerobatics and was taken over by Liesel Bach a few years later .
