Emil Friedman

Emil Friedman Kossuth (born Emil Friedmann, May 24, 1908 in Prague , Austria-Hungary ; died April 24, 2002 in Caracas ) was a Czech violinist, conductor and music teacher.

Life

Friedmann studied violin at the Prague Conservatory until 1933. He then received his doctorate in classical philology, Latin and Greek from Cambridge University and graduated from Charles University in Prague in 1936 with a law degree . In 1938 he undertook a tour of Europe, Asia and Oceania as concertmaster. Before the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, he emigrated to London in 1938. He spent the time of the Second World War in the USA.

In 1945 Friedman founded a music school in Maracaibo , which he directed for three years. In 1948 he went to Caracas and founded the Kindergarten Musical Emil Friedman , which later became the Colegio Emil Friedman . Over the course of more than 50 years, he has trained numerous orchestral musicians here, as well as internationally recognized soloists. He also founded the first youth string orchestra in Venezuela. In 1993 he was awarded the Premio National de Musica de Venezuela for his services to the promotion of music . The Czech Republic honored him for the international dissemination of Czech culture in 1997 with the Gratias Agis Prize .
