Empirical function
An empirical function or experience function is a mathematical function that is found from the observation, measurement or experimental analysis of primarily scientific or social-scientific processes. So it describes real phenomena. Examples are the recording of the room temperature in a certain time interval or the time-distance behavior of a body.
Often the empirical function means the function that is well compatible with this empirically found data (in a certain sense). Sometimes one speaks of an empirical function , especially when no functional relationship in the form of a function term can be specified .
