The Rampur power plant ( English Rampur Hydro Power Station ) is a run-of-river power plant on Satluj in India in the Kullu district in the state of Himachal Pradesh . The city of Shimla is located approx. 60 km southwest of the power plant.

A letter of intent for the project was signed in October 2004. Construction began in February 2007 and was completed in March 2014. The power plant went into operation with the first machine in March 2014.

Nathpa Jhakri power plant

The Rampur power plant does not need a shut-off structure that dams the Satluj , as it uses the water from the outlet tunnel of the Nathpa Jhakri power plant. Another advantage is that the water has already been cleaned of suspended particles in the settling basin there . The water is led to the Rampur power plant via a tunnel (length 15.177 km, diameter 10.5 m). At the end of the tunnel there is a moated castle (height 165 m, diameter 38 m). Pressure pipelines then lead to the machine house.

power plant

The Rampur power plant has an installed capacity of 412  MW . The average annual generation is given as 1.77 and 1.878 billion kWh . The power plant's six Francis turbines each have a maximum output of 68.67 MW and the generators 83.93  MVA . The rated speed of the turbines is 214.3 / min. The drop height is 119.1 m.

Others

The total cost of the power plant was 2047.03 crore INR, or 665 or $ 670 million . The World Bank India granted in 2007 a loan of 400 million USD for the construction of the power plant.
