Endō (clan)

The Endō ( Japanese 遠藤 氏 , Endō-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ) , which came from the province of Mino and which was derived from the Taira .

genealogy

  • Originally, the Endō were a subsidiary branch of the Tō clan ( 東 氏 , Tō-shi ).
  • Morikazu ( 盛 数 ; † 1563) built the Gujō-Hachiman castle .
  • Yoshitaka ( 慶隆 ; 1550-1632), his son served Toyotomi Hideyoshi , but switched to the Tokugawa side and became the first daimyō on Gujō-Hachiman.
  • Tanechika ( 胤 親 ; 1683-1735) was transferred to Mikami in Ōmi province in 1698 , where the family had to be content with an income of only 10,000 koku and a permanent house ( Jin'ya ). The Endō resided there until the end of the Tokugawa period .
  • Taneki ( 胤 城 ; 1838–1909) was the last daimyo. After the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the family took the name Tō. The head of the house held the title Vice Count until 1945.
