Mino Province
Mino ( Japanese. 美濃 国 , Mino no kuni ) or Nōshū ( 濃 州 ) was one of the historical provinces of Japan , which essentially coincides with today's southern part of Gifu Prefecture . Mino bordered the provinces of Echizen , Hida , Ise , Mikawa , Ōmi , Owari, and Shinano .
The old provincial capital ( kokufu ) was in the Fuchū district (an alternative name for a provincial capital) of Tarui . Mino was one of the provinces originally controlled by Oda Nobunaga , and its heirs continued to rule it after Nobunaga died and Toyotomi Hideyoshi took power in Japan. The main castle was at Gifu .
The Battle of Sekigahara took place on the western edge of Mino, near the mountains between the Chūbu region and the Kinki region.
