Iwami Province

Iwami ( Japanese 石 見 国 , Iwami no kuni ) or Sekishū ( 石 州 ) was one of the historical provinces of Japan in the western part of today's Shimane Prefecture . Iwami bordered Aki , Bingo , Izumo , Nagato, and Suo provinces .

The old provincial capital ( kokufu ) lay with the modern Hamada . In the Sengoku period , Iwami was a fief of the Mōri from neighboring Aki.
