Shiribeshi Province

Shiribeshi ( Japanese 後 志 国 , Shiribeshi no kuni ) was a short-lived historical province of Japan in the area of ​​today's Hokkaidō Prefecture . It corresponded to the current Shiribeshi Sub-prefecture (excluding Abuta County) and the northern part of the Hiyama Sub-prefecture .

history

The province was founded with the other provinces of Hokkaidō on August 15, 1869 with 17 districts . The census of 1872 showed 19,098 inhabitants (Japanese, excluding the native Ainu ), in 1882 the provinces in Hokkaido were replaced by the prefectural system.
