Ishikari Province
The province of Ishikari ( Japanese 石 狩 国 , Ishikari no kuni ) was a short-lived province of Japan on Hokkaidō .
The area corresponds to today's Ishikari sub-prefecture (excluding Chitose and Eniwa ), the entire Sorachi sub-prefecture and the southern half of the Kamikawa sub-prefecture (except Shimukappu ).
history
The province was founded on August 15, 1869 with nine counties ( 郡 , gun ) together with the other provinces on Hokkaidō . The 1872 census found a population of 6,003 Japanese (excluding native Ainu ). In 1882 the provinces were dissolved in Hokkaidō and the Hokkaidō Prefecture was established.
