Mimasaka Province

Mimasaka ( Japanese 美 作 国 , Mimasaka no kuni ) or Sakushū ( 作 州 ) was one of the historical provinces of Japan in the part of the island of Honshū that is now the northeastern prefecture of Okayama .

Mimasaka bordered the provinces of Bitchū , Bizen , Harima , Hoki and Inaba .

Mimasaka was founded in 713 as a spin-off from the province of Bizen. The old provincial capital ( kokufu ) was in today's Tsuyama . During the Edo period , the fiefdom ( han ) Tsuyama was located here , the main castle of which was also in Tsuyama.
