Mimasaka ( Japanese 美 作 市 , -shi ) is a city in Okayama prefecture on the island of Honshu in Japan .
geography
Mimasaka located in the extreme northeast of the Okayama Prefecture, bordering the prefecture Tottori and Hyogo . The highest mountain in the urban area is the 1344 meter high Ushiroyama . The two main rivers are the Yoshii and the Yoshino , a tributary of the Yoshii.
history
The city of Mimasaka was founded on March 31, 2005 by the amalgamation of the communities Katsuta ( 勝 田 町 , -chō ) in the district of Katsuta and Aida ( 英 田 町 , -chō ), Mimasaka ( 美 作 町 , -chō ), Ōhara ( 大 原 町 , - chō ), Sakutō ( 作 東 町 , -chō ) and the village of Higashiawakura ( 東 粟 倉 村 , -son ) in the district of Aida .
Attractions
In the district of Ōhara there is the Miyamoto Musashi Museum. This samurai was born in the area of today's Ōhara in the 16th century. The museum consists of a building with exhibits and an extensive outdoor area in the style of the Azuchi Momoyama period . In Ōhara there is also the Sanomo shrine ( 讃 甘 神社 , Sanomo-jinja ).
In the district of Higashiawakura there is the Museum of Contemporary Toys in Japan. There is also Belville Park and Ai no mura Park, an onsen .
