Asakuchi ( Japanese 浅 口 市 , -shi ) is a city in the Japanese prefecture of Okayama .

Asakuchi is east of Fukuyama and west of Okayama on the Seto Inland Sea .

history

The city of Asakuchi was founded on March 21, 2006 from the union of the communities Kamogata ( 鴨 方 町 , -chō ), Konkō ( 金光 町 , -chō ) and Yorishima ( 寄 島 町 , -chō ) of Asakuchi County.

Asakuchi is connected to the highway network via the San'yō highway and national road 2 (to Osaka and Kitakyūshū ). The town lies on the San'yo Main Line of JR West , between Kobe runs and Kitakyushu.
