Kawachi Province

Kawachi ( Japanese 河内 国 , Kawachi no kuni ) or Kashū ( 河 州 ) was one of the provinces of Japan and, according to the Gokishichidō division, one of the inner provinces (Kinai), which was located in the southeastern part of today's Osaka Prefecture .

Kawachi's old capital ( kokufu ) is believed to be near Fujiidera . Kawachi was a relatively small province and was usually dominated by the rulers in Osaka Castle and Settsu Province .

Traditionally daring folk festivals have survived, at which several mikoshi weighing several tons are hurled around street corners with great force and an equally crude variant of the regional Kansai dialect .

After the Shoku Nihongi , the districts of Izumi and Hine were spun off on April 23, 715 , and Ōtori on May 8, and the old province of Izumi was founded therefrom . On September 15, 740 this was again incorporated into Kawachi, but on May 30, 757 again finally outsourced.
