End-of-pipe technology

An end-of-pipe technology (from English end of pipe : at the end of the pipe) is an additive (subsequently added) environmental protection measure . It does not change the production process itself, but reduces the environmental impact through downstream measures. Examples are silencers to reduce noise emissions and exhaust gas cleaning systems to keep air clean . The CO 2 capture and storage is a typical end-of-pipe technology.

The end-of-pipe technologies must be distinguished from integrated environmental protection or production- integrated environmental protection (PIUS).
