End time

End times is a sculpture in Magdeburg's old town .

The sculpture is located north of the Green Citadel , the Magdeburg Hundertwasser House, on Erhard-Hübener-Platz and is part of the Magdeburg Sculpture Park .

It was created in 1983 by Helmut Lander and deals with the topic of nuclear war . The work is made of cast iron . Five figures up to 2.01 meters in size or their outlines stand on a concrete surface. Their shadows, some of them mutilated, lie in front of them.

The sculpture deals with the consequences of the atomic bombing on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Reference is made to reports that the effects of the bomb were so strong that people were completely destroyed and only shadows of their outlines could be seen on ruins or paths . The work of the artist, who at that time was living in the Federal Republic, was created under the impression of the stationing of nuclear medium-range weapons in the Federal Republic following the NATO double resolution.
