history
In 1906, the building office of the Wiesdorf municipal administration laid the foundation stone for the public supply of Leverkusen with energy and drinking water.
After the creation of the city of Leverkusen, the "municipal companies" were initially run as a management company and later as an independent company "Stadtwerke Leverkusen" with more independence. A commercial enterprise was created in 1973 through the conversion of the company's own business into a corporation and the establishment of “Stadtwerke Leverkusen GmbH”.
With the incorporation of Opladen in the course of the regional reform , a uniform structure had to be created for the enlarged supply area. One reason is that the city's Leverkusen Rheinisch power station (RWE) AG in 1977 to 50% on their utility companies involved.
In addition to capital contributions, RWE also contributed the medium-voltage network . In 2002 RWE Plus AG transferred the shares held in EVL to GEW RheinEnergie AG. Since then, the city of Leverkusen and RheinEnergie AG each hold 50% of the shares .
Since the liberalization of the energy market, EVL has developed from a pure supplier of energy and drinking water to a customer-oriented service provider. Today, EVL is one of the larger companies in Leverkusen with around 370 jobs and an annual turnover of around 200 million euros.
