Enrique Jiménez

Enrique Jiménez (* 1985 in Granada ) is a Spanish ancient orientalist .

Life

In 2004 he received the Spanish National Award for Abitur graduates. From 2003 to 2008 he studied at the Complutense University of Madrid : classical philology with a focus on Indo-European linguistics; Graduated with distinction and from 2007 to 2012 Hebrew Philology; Degree with honors. In 2010 he was awarded the National Prize for Excellence in Academic Achievement, Spanish Minister of Education; Main prize. In 2010 he received the diploma for advanced studies (DEA, equivalent to a Magister). Title of the master's thesis: “La imagen de los vientos en la literatura mágica cuneiforme” (“The image of the winds in cuneiform magical literature”); Grading: very good with distinction (highest grade). From 2008 to 2013 he completed his doctorate as part of the doctorate in religious studies; Title of the thesis: “La imagen del viento en la literatura babilónica” (“The image of the wind in Babylonian literature”); Supervisor: Barbara Böck (CSIC); Grading: Cum Laude (highest grade); Dissertation Prize from Complutense University, Madrid (2014). From 2012 to 2013 he completed an extension course ( DAAD ) at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . From 2013 to 2016 he was a research assistant at the Department of Near Eastern Languages ​​and Civilizations ( Yale University ) as part of the “Cuneiform Commentaries Project”. In 2015 he received first prize for the first post-doctoral article (International Assyriology Association). From 2017 to 2018 he had a postdoctoral contract at the Department of Hebrew and Aramaic Philology (Complutense University, Madrid). In 2017 he received the Sofja Kovalevskaja Prize (€ 1,650,000) for the research project “Electronic Babylonian Literature” (eBL). Since 2018 he has been teaching as a professor (chair) for ancient oriental literatures at the LMU Munich .

His research interests are ancient oriental literature, ancient oriental science and Akkadian grammar.
