Entwerter / Oder (own spelling: ENTWERTER / OR ) is a small-run, original graphic artist magazine . It combines contemporary art in the form of original graphics, original drawings , photographs, objets trouvés , copy and concept art , music (in sheet music and / or on MC and CD), films (DVD) and first-published texts, mostly by German-speaking authors. The text form ranges from visual poetry to lyric poetry to experimental prose and essays on art history.

history

Entwerter / Oder was founded by Uwe Warnke and Siegmar Körner in 1982 in East Berlin. Uwe Warnke has been the sole editor since 1984. It was the first of the illegally appearing artist magazines in eastern Germany to become a scene of the “magazine nonsense” (Chr. Tannert). The editions ranged from 4 to 100 copies. This artist magazine occupied a space within East German society that was maintained until the collapse in 1989. It took advantage of a loophole in the law that did not expressly prohibit working with artistic originals up to an edition of 99 copies. The typewriter was the "print medium" of the texts; Photographs were always hand prints; among other things, screen prints, lithographs and etchings can be found in printmaking.

Entwerter / Oder came from the East Berlin subculture and was part of the so-called complementary, counter or 2nd culture within the GDR.

39 issues and 9 special issues appeared up to 1990.

The Berlin bookbinder Hinrich Peters has been binding all editions since 1984.

The format is usually A4 (portrait format 21 × 29.7 cm). The volume of an issue can be 12 to 200 sheets. The edition is currently 33 copies. Around 20 authors and artists are featured in each issue. Each artist / author involved will receive a copy after completion. Thematic editions were introduced with No. 23. Since then, thematic and non-thematic editions have alternated. Special editions on photography, experimental literature and other art forms and topics have been around since 1984.

99 issues had been published by December 2014. There are also 28 special editions. Around 200 artists and authors from around 9 countries took part in Entwerter / Oder. In 2016 Entwerter / Oder 100 appeared as a 5-volume anniversary edition in a wooden box.

In an international context, the art project fits into the assemblings.

In addition to the regular editions, special editions have been published since 1984. These can be designed and published by an artist or a group of artists on different topics and occasions. They also make it possible to react spontaneously to certain events.
