Uwe Warnke

Uwe Warnke (* 1956 in Wittenberge ) is a German writer and publisher. He publishes the literary magazine Entwerter / Oder .

Life

Uwe Warnke was born in Wittenberge in 1956 and grew up in Schwerin . He completed an apprenticeship as a cartographer and later studied cartography at the TU Dresden .

In 1982 he went to Berlin via Potsdam and founded the original graphic underground magazine Entwerter / Oder with Siegmar Körner, which was published unofficially until the end of 1989 and which he publishes to this day: there are 100 regular issues and 28 special issues.

As an author, Warnke wrote articles in the 1980s for the unofficial magazines UND , USW , A3 , Common Sense and Die Spinne and was committed to visual poetry .

In 1990 he founded the producer publisher. A year-long collaboration with Erich Maas followed . Warnke publishes artist books, editions and painter's books at Uwe Warnke Verlag . He participated in the First Alternative Book Fair in Leipzig in 1990. For his publishing work in the 1980s, he received the Victor Otto Stomps Prize in Mainz in 1991 . His collaboration with Ottfried Zielke (1936–2016) should be emphasized .

Warnke has also been an exhibition organizer for visual poetry and artist books since the 1990s . From 2003 to 2015 he ran the literature salon TextTotal with Ralf B. Korte and Detlev Holland-Moritz , which analyzed the contemporary understanding of poetry in a critical and extraordinary way.

He is a member of the group of German book artists 13+, which has exhibited internationally since 2000. Uwe Warnke is the exhibition organizer (together with Ingeborg Quaas and Thomas Günther (1952–2018)) of the exhibition poesie des untergrunds , which was shown in Berlin and other cities in 2009 (exhibition tour through Rheinsberg, Jena, Greifswald, New York, Neustrelitz, Berlin, Basel , Thessaloniki). He is also a member of the German writers' association PEN Center .

In 2012, Warnke was co-curator (together with Ulrich Domröse, TO Immisch, Gabriele Muschter ) of the exhibition Closed Society. Artistic photography in the GDR 1949 to 1989. at the Berlinische Galerie (see also catalog of the same name). In 2018 Warnke realized the exhibition In Another Land together with Gabriele Muschter . Transformation processes using examples of contemporary photography in Germany. in the Haus am Kleistpark, Berlin, in the Kultur Forum Dresden riesa efau and the Kunsthalle Erfurt. At the same time, Warnke curated the photography exhibition Ins Offene in collaboration with Gabriele Muschter and TO Immisch in the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle in 2018 . In 2017, Warnke was granted a business license as an auctioneer. Since then, he has been running the auctions twice a year for Altenburg Photography Auctions.

Warnke has been Deputy Chairman of the Foundation Council of the Haus Europa cultural foundation since 2018. He lives in Berlin.
