Ottfried Zielke

Ottfried Zielke (born July 16, 1936 in Berlin ; † September 17, 2016 ) was a German cartoonist , draftsman , painter and book artist. He lived and worked in Schiffmühle / Oderbruch near Berlin.

Life

Zielke grew up in Berlin and did an apprenticeship as a commercial advertiser . In the years from 1957 to 1961 he completed his studies at the East Berlin Technical School for Applied Arts , at which he worked as an assistant until 1968. Since 1968 he has been a freelance graphic artist and painter. In 1987, 1989 and 1990 u. a. his designs were selected for the KUNST STATT WERBUNG competition at Alexanderplatz subway station in East Berlin . In 1992 he became a member of the jury for this project. A year later he was a member of the artists' initiative KUNST STATT WERBUNG. In 1990 he was a founding member of the cartoon factory Köpenick, Berlin. In 1992 he made illustrations for three books School Pedagogy, German Institute for Distance Learning at the University of Tübingen and, from 1992 to 1994, illustrations for the German teachers' newspaper. From 1989 to 1995 caricatures were created for the satirical magazine Eulenspiegel .

From 1992 there was an intensive collaboration with Uwe Warnke Verlag , Berlin, in the field of painting books (unique items) and other original graphic artist books. Both knew each other from working on Warnke's small-run original graphic underground magazine ENTWERTER / OR , on which Zielke had been working since 1989. His work later appeared in editions of the Berliner Hybridenverlag, the Berliner Edition Dschamp, the Rudolstadter Burgart-Presse, the Buchmacherey Heinrich in Helserdeich and the New York Artichoke Yink Press. He was able to look back on numerous participations in mail art projects, exhibitions on visual poetry and book art in Germany and abroad as well as on exhibition participation with unique painting books in Berlin, Prague, Seoul, Tallinn, New York, San Francisco.

The painting books and other works were represented at the Frankfurt Book Fair by Uwe Warnke Verlag, Berlin. 60 large, unique painting books by Zielke are in private and public collections around the world.
