Walter Voltmer

Walter E. Voltmer (born February 3, 1884 in Altona near Hamburg , † November 13, 1972 in Munich ) was a German landscape painter , book illustrator and graphic artist .

Voltmer was born in Altona in 1884 as the son of factory owner Julius Voltmer and Alice Voltmer (née Hardman). He was married in his first, later divorced, from 1909 to the painter Margarete Gestefeld, with whom he had three children. The second marriage to Gertrud von Wolf in 1928 also resulted in three children. Arthur Siebelist's pupil , who studied both at the Académie Julian in Paris and at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts, had his own studio from 1905. From 1903 to 1905 he was a member of the Hamburg Art Club . In both world wars, the drawing teacher at a secondary school (1928–1947) served as a soldier. The main motifs of his works were north German landscapes and views of the Elbe.
