Gabriele Muschter

Gabriele Muschter (born October 6, 1946 in Oranienbaum ) is a German art historian , journalist and curator . Her main focus is on East German art after the Second World War .

biography

Muschter studied art studies / aesthetics at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1974 to 1979 . Since early youth, she has been engaged in visual arts through accessible literature , exhibitions and catalogs. After graduating from high school , she completed a traineeship as a culture editor and from 1970 to 1974 published the "Mitteilungen" of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (an internal information magazine), which appeared six times a year.

After completing her studies, in 1979 she took over the management of the Galerie Mitte in Dresden, which existed in the 1980s . From 1984 to 1987 she was an aspirant at the Humboldt University on the subject of photography from the 1970s and 1980s in the GDR . Muschter has been a freelance art historian / art educator since 1987 . From May to October 1990 she was State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture of the GDR (first democratically elected and last GDR government). Since 1990 she has been providing cultural advice to federal and state authorities as well as companies such as Philip Morris , AEG , Ostdeutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband , Gaedeke Group, Procter & Gamble .

From 1990 to 2010, Muschter was director of the New Culture Foundation and chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Haus Europa cultural foundation. (KHS), since 2010 she has been a board member of KHS. She was also a member of the KulturBrauerei's management from 1994 to 1998 . In 2001 she took part in the founding of the company VISTA - culture, advice, mediation and worked from 1998 to 2002 as a partner for Berlin, head of Central and Eastern Europe. From 2002 to 2006 she advised the coordinator of the governing mayor for Central and Eastern Europe and the manager of the MOE club. From 2006 she worked as a freelance art scholar, curator, author, editor and lecturer .
