Eochaid I.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eochaid I. , called Eochaid Buide († 629 ), was king of the Irish-Scottish kingdom of Dalriada from approx. 608 to 629 .

After his older brothers were murdered, Eochaid succeeded his father Aidan to the throne. The nickname Buide means "the yellow one" and probably refers to his blond hair. He took in Prince Oswald and Oswiu, who had been driven out of Northumbria by King Edwin . In 622 Eochaid defeated the Uí Néills in the Battle of Cenn Delgthan.

After heir to the throne Conaing died in 622 at sea, Connad was chosen as the successor, who took over the throne from his father Eochaid in 629.
