Eric Heidsieck

Éric Heidsieck (born August 26, 1936 in Reims , Department Marne ) is a French classical pianist .

Life

Eric Heidsieck had an extraordinary career. He gave his first concert at the age of nine and his first concert with orchestra when he was ten. Trained by Blanche Bascouret, he entered the class of Marcel Ciampi in 1954 with a recommendation to the Paris Conservatory . He had his first lessons with Alfred Cortot at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and, parallel to this, in 1957, courses on Beethoven with Wilhelm Kempff in Positano . He started his international career in 1955. In 1960 he formed a duo with his wife Tania, they were successful all over the world.

Eric Heidsieck has an unusual repertoire and has played on the largest stages in the world: the complete suites by Handel, all of the Bach partitas, all of Mozart's sonatas and concertos, the Beethoven sonatas, all of Fauré's works, the sonatas by Hindemith. Eric Heidsieck has played more than 70 concerts, from Bach to Bartok, with the greatest conductors in the world. He is the first French pianist of the twentieth century to play all 32 Beethoven sonatas by heart.

To date, he has produced 105 recordings for various companies, including two with a Grand Prix du Disque . The full discography is available online on its official website.

Eric Heidsieck is the author of a booklet with cadences for all of Mozart's concerts. He has also composed several song cycles, not forgetting his famous paraphrase on the theme of the Marseillaise . He also wrote an essay on the differentiation of musical signs in terms of volume and space, the result of years of research. From 1980 to 1998 he taught piano at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Lyon for 18 years .

He continues teaching with master classes , sits on juries of international competitions and continues his concert activities as well as his studio recordings.
