The Ericus Bridge is a former swing bridge built in 1870 in the Hamburg district of HafenCity , which runs along the Poggenmühle street over the Ericusgraben and Brooktorhafen. It thus connects the districts Brooktorkai / Ericus and Am Lohsepark . It is considered to be one of the oldest surviving movable bridges in Germany .

The bridge consists of a 35.75 meter long and 8.96 meter wide iron structure that rests in the middle on a round pillar. It originally served both rail and road traffic. In the 19th century it connected the Hanover station and the Berlin station . It was designed as a swing bridge because the watercourse between Oberhafen and Ericusgraben was used by small sailing ships and other high-rise watercraft. The construction could be rotated until 1948, the spoked wheels on both sides prevented the movable beam from tipping. The concrete foundation of the river pillar stood on wooden piles driven up to eight meters deep. In the course of the redevelopment of Brooktorkai / Ericus as part of the HafenCity district, the bridge was renovated and has been accessible again since June 2014.

The name goes back to the former Ericus bastion of the Hamburger Wallanlagen , which stood on the Ericusspitze .
